SWASHBUCKLERS ESTABLISH THEMSELVES IN THE ELITE
LAKE CHARLES - The Louisiana Swashbucklers have completed their first five seasons, have won three league championships, and have one of the best winning percentages among all indoor football teams. The team will be looking to build upon its success in the 2010 season.
As the sixth season approaches, the Swashbucklers have posted a regular season record of 56-12 (.824) which ranks them second overall nationwide in indoor football to the Spokane Shock. By winning the inaugural championship of the Southern Indoor Football League, the Black and Purple Gang have claimed titles with both the Intense Football League and the SIFL.
For any indoor football team to be as successful as the Bucs have been, getting the ball into the endzone is how being a member of the elite is accomplished. In the last three seasons, the Swashbucklers have averaged 67.6 points per game. This ranking puts them among the top five nationally.
The 2010 season will commence with new head coach Shadrick McAfee taking over from former head coach Darnell Lee. After a career record of 50-9, Lee is taking a position with the Alaska Wild. They are with the Intense Football League.
McAfee returns to Lake Charles after having served as an assistant coach for the SIFL's Acadiana Mudbugs last season. "Coach Lee left behind some big shoes to fill," McAfee said. "But I will work hard to keep the winning tradition alive and to bring a fourth championship to our fans."
Swashbucklers president Thom Hager comments on the arrival of McAfee as the new coach. "He has a proven track record of success and knows our team very well being a former player," Hager said. "With Coach McAfee on board I look forward to the challenges ahead in 2010."
