FIRST SWASHBUCKLERS TRYOUTS CONDUCTED
LAKE CHARLES, LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers are getting ready and reloaded to defend their championship title in the Southern Indoor Football League. The first tryout for new players was held on Saturday, December 12, at the McNeese State Cowboys football stadium under the supervision of first year head coach Shadrick McAfee. More tryouts are scheduled before training camp begins.
It takes a special breed to be a Swashbuckler. Veteran wide receiver Sammy Knight describes what he wants to see in a potential player. "I am looking for guys who will play with a lot of fire and willing to learn the inside game. I want to see men who will step up and play at the level we expect them to."
Head coach McAfee gives some insight into what he is looking for at the tryouts. "I want players who are not only talented but smart. I need men who can handle themselves on and off the field. We know that some teams have character issues that may become a problem and cost them down the line. I do not want that on this team. Also, I want players who can carry themselves and understand the nature of indoor football. The name 'Swashbuckler' means a lot to the Lake Charles community."
With more tryouts on the way, McAfee adds he is looking for a couple of offensive and defensive linemen, defensive backs, a quarterback and one or two wide receivers. The dates of the remaining player tryouts will be announced soon.
