Bucs Fight Obesity Back To News

BUCS TO HELP OUT WITH WALK FOR OBESITY

LAKE CHARLES LA. – Did you know that Louisiana ranks 7th in the United States in childhood obesity? In the past two decades, the cost of diseases associated with child obesity has increased by 92 million dollars a year. On average, 53% of Louisiana youth spend two to three hours a day watching television or playing video games.

Your Louisiana Swashbucklers are very concerned about the health of our children in our community. And that is why we are participating in the first annual Walk for Obesity on Saturday, March 13th, at the Lake Charles Civic Center Amphitheater. The Walk for Obesity will include healthy food, fun, and fellowship for the entire family. The Bucs will be out and about meeting with the kids and their families. We will also be giving away tickets and jerseys too.

The walk is sponsored by the Southwest Louisiana Center for Health Services. The walk is on behalf of KidFit, a 12 week program for children that includes fitness, nutrition, and recreational activities. Proceeds from the walk will be used to send children to attend an all expense paid trip to Wellspring Camp in San Marcos, Texas.

Only one week left until the 2010 season begins! The Swashbucklers begins its defense of the Southern Indoor Football League title on Saturday, March 20th, with tailgating to start at 5 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m. Be sure to get your tickets right away for exciting Swashbucklers football action!
